I bought my Woodfast when variable speed was relatively new. Mine uses a DC motor, but it is still going strong and serves me well. I have never felt the need to add weight or bolt it down. If I have an out of balance rough-out, I just slow it down. I have never felt the need to do some of the really off-center turning that others do. Grinder is to the left, Sanding supplies and bench to the right, with the bandsaw a little more to the right. The lathe is positioned so I have a view out of 3 windows that overlook our fields, woods and pond while at the lathe.
