Sphericons
I recently discovered a class of mathematical forms known as sphericons. These forms are quite interesting in that the forms look complicated, however they result from fairly simple geometry. Each sphericon is turned on the lathe so that the form, if split in half along the axis of rotation shows that the form is a regular polyhedron like a square, pentagon or hexagon. The resulting form is then cut in half and the resulting 2 halves rotated and rejoined. This results in a very interesting geometric form. I figured out a way to take this process one step further to allow the piece to be hollowed and the result pierced.
