Turning

I devoted about 1/4 of the area of the main shop to just turning. I originally had my Woodfast near the wall, but decided to let the lathe have more of a center stage when I purchased the American Beauty in 2009. Robust has made a wonderful lathe that truly lives up to it's name.

I have shuffled the various storage items over the years to fit my work style and get things handy and organized. The photos on this page show some of these storage solutions. Hopefully they may give other turners some ideas for their own shops. Many of the solutions have been with me for years in 4 different shops. They have been modified and improved upon, but I have never taken the time to rebuild them since they work well. A good example is the grinder stand. That started life as just a table with 2 x 2 legs. Over the years it has held 3 grinders, gained walls to hold wood in a bin, drawers for little parts, wheels, and most recently, the belt sander sharpener. It isn't pretty, and I could probably build a little nicer one, but it functions well and it will probably live in my shop till I'm gone.
