The Studio

These are some photos of my shop/studio. My wife inherited the property from her mother in 1997. The barn was in pretty sad shape tilting a full foot from one side to the other due to a shifting stone foundation. We were still living in Alaska, but decided that the barn needed a new foundation, which we had completed in 1998. That was quite a project with the barn jacked up on stilts while the old rock foundation was removed and the new poured foundation completed.

We moved to Vermont in 2001 and started in on our renovation project. The house got a major renovation, including a kitchen. I spent my time on the kitchen (a contractor did the rest). Part of the deal was I needed a shop with good tools to make the cabinetry for the kitchen. I spent 6 months totally reworking the first floor of the barn into a year round shop. It is well insulated and sealed.

The shop has gone through some changes, since it was completed. I expect there will be more, as it evolves. Most notable was that I splurged on a Robust lathe in 2009. I decided that it needed to take more of a center stage, so reworked the turning area a bit to do that.
